Senator Inouye testified in defense of his five colleagues who are under investigation. Called primarily as a character witness by Senator DeConcini, Senator Inouye said he believed the five senators did nothing out of the ordinary on behalf of Charles Keating of Lincoln Savings and Loan. Ms. Jacobson, Senator Cranston’s chief fundraiser, denied emphatically that there was any pact to trade contributions for political favors between Keating and Sen. Cranston. Sen. Cranston’s campaigns and political groups received nearly $1 million from Mr. Keating or his family. close
