Participants including Representative Ben Cardin (D-Maryland), Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-Maryland), Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland) and Health and Human Services Secretary, Donna Shalala, talked about the future of Medicare and how to improve coverage for older Americans. They stressed that the surplus should be used to strengthen Social Security and Medicare. They also urged Congress to add coverage of prescription drugs to Medicare benefits.
