Secretary of State James Baker was on hand when fifty hostages from Iraq and Kuwait returned to the United States. He praised their courage while echoing the president’s insistence that no thanks to being given to Saddam Hussein. Among those hostages was the Ambassador to Kuwait Nathaniel Howell and other embassy staff who were trapped in the embassy for four months and subsisted on tuna fish and swimming pool water. close
