Children of the Movement
Mr. Blake will talk about his book Children of the Movement: The Sons and Daughters of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad, George Wallace, Andrew Young, Julian Bond, Stokely Carmichael, Bob Moses, James Chaney, Elaine Brown, and Others Reveal How the Civil Rights Movement Tested and Transformed Their Families, published by Lawrence Hill Books. Mr. Blake spoke about the lives of the sons and daughters of the leaders, activists, and segregationists of the Civil Rights Movement and its opponents. Mr. Blake explained that the 24 interviews offer a wide range of views about the past as well as the present. The children of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X are featured along with Kwame Ture’s son Stokely Carmichael, and Ericka Abram, the daughter of Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown. After the discussion, the author responded to questions from members of the audience. close
