Over 250 reenactors at Mount Vernon, including descendants of Washington and his slaves, recreated the funeral of George Washington the mark the 200th anniversary of his death. Several participants read remarks by Washington’s contemporaries expressing sympathy for his death, while others, dressed in period clothing recreated the remarks made at the funeral. Before and after the funeral guests commented on the ceremony and telephone lines were opened for audience comments and questions. close
