Last week marked the fifteenth anniversary of the confirmation of Justice Stevens to the Supreme Court. This series of programs looked at the Stevens confirmation and his judicial philosophy. Mr. Baker, a former clerk of Justice Stevens, talked about the history and described the “judges' judge.” Mr. Elsasser discussed the political history concerning Justice Stevens’s nomination and confirmation. Dr. O’Brien examined the political climate in 1975, when Justice Stevens was nominated by President Ford. A speech by Justice Stevens in August to this year’s meeting of the American Bar Association was also shown, with an introduction by Mr. Barry, his former partner. close
