Representative Steve Bartlett (R) is a member of the House of Representatives from the Third Congressional District of Texas, a region including much of the suburban Dallas-area and considered to be “one of the nation’s richest, best educated, and most Republican congressional districts in the nation.” Mr. Bartlett owned and operated a tool and plastic company before he began his political career as a city council member in Dallas. First elected to the House in 1982, he serves on the Banking and the Education and Labor Committees. Mr. Bartlett commented on being a Republican in the 1990's and outlined the goals of the party. He also compared the differences of the Republican and Democratic parties on such issues as child care, housing, and the national budget. He explained the history of the Republican Party from the time of the Civil War to the present and explained why he believes the Republican Party is the “party of the future.” close
