As part of a forum on campaign politics and the media, former 11-term Representative John Anderson (R-IL), talked about his experiences as a 1980 independent presidential candidate. He believes that paid media advertising drives national campaigns and that all campaign financing should be from public funds. He noted that he won a 1983 U.S. Supreme Court case, which held that independent candidates cannot be discriminated against by the media. After his remarks he took questions from the audience. close
