The House Select Committee on Aging heard testimony on the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990, then before Congressional committee. Joseph Kennedy II (D-Massachusetts) supported immediate action on the bill, and noted the partisan support for action toward low-cost housing. The National Affordable Housing Act would deny housing builders the ability to prepay forty year mortgages in twenty years, and by doing so the bill would extend the low cost housing requirements intended by the original federal housing laws. close
