On the program An American Profile, Derek Bok discussed his twenty-year career as President of the oldest university in the United States, Harvard University. During that time he has raised the school’s endowment from $1 billion to $5 billion. The John F. Kennedy School of Government was established during his tenure and is now recognized as a leading educational source for the nation’s public policy experts. President Bok said his most important contribution has been an emphasis on moral issues. He is concerned that modern universities do not contribute enough to the development of students as responsible, ethical individuals. close
