Rosemary Stewart, former director of enforcement at the Office of Thrift Supervision, testified that she was not pressured by any of the five senators being investigated to cease examination of the finances of Charles Keating’s Lincoln Savings and Loan Association. Her testimony contradicted that of other regulators who stated that the five senators had attempted to pressure them into not investigating Lincoln Savings and Loan.

Ms. Stewart stated that while government regulators in California had urged investigation of Lincoln Savings and Loan, they had not supported their allegations with sufficient evidence warranting an investigation from the Office of Thrift Supervision. close
