Speaking to reporters before leaving for Camp David, the president commented on Iraq’s willingness to hold talks between Secretary of State James Baker and Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz in Geneva. President Bush called on Saddam Hussein to respond to the world community’s desire for a peaceful resolution to the Persian Gulf crisis, but Bush would not reveal the content of the letter he is sending to Saddam Hussein through Baker at Geneva. Bush said that he felt most observers of the economy would find the current recession, if it exists, to be shallow and short-lived. close
