American and Iranian scholars talked about the new Parliament in Iran and its implications for U.S.-Iran relations. Elections had brought reform-minded legislators to the Parliament, but hard-line Islamic Fundamentalists still maintained control of the government, tempering any general reform movement. The Clinton administration was seeking to normalize relations with Iran, including the return of funds seized following the 1979 revolution there. close
