May 25, 2003 marked the bicentennial of the birth of Ralph Waldo Emerson. To celebrate the event, the Philosophy Foundation brought together poet Robert Pinsky and Emerson scholars Richard Geldard and David Robinson to talk about the man and his contribution to American social, political, and spiritual thought. After introductory remarks by Professor Geldard and Professor Robinson, Robert Pinsky read selections from Emerson’s work. The discussion concluded with follow-up remarks by Professor Geldard and a question and answer session. The event was held in Boston’s Faneuil Hall. close
