Michael Cooper talked about his book Indian School: Teaching the White Man’s Way, published by Clarion Books. The book describes the experiences of the first Sioux Indians sent to the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania in 1879. Carlisle was the first institution opened by the federal government for the education of Native American children. The school

forced the children to abandon their native culture and language in favor of the predominant American culture. He responded to questions from the middle school children. close
