The committee heard testimony on the effects of the Persian Gulf crisis on oil supplies to the United States, and the subsequent effects on the U.S. economy. Mr. Pettis said that Department of Energy reports found that oil supplies would be more than sufficient for the nation’s energy use for the near future. Mr. Easton spoke on the preparations taken by the United States government to secure constant supplies of oil in the event of war in the Persian Gulf. close
