Mr. Boren, chairman of the Senate Select Intelligence committee, spoke to reporters on sanctions against Iraq. He felt that sanctions have had a significant impact on the economy of Iraq, and further deterioration of Iraq’s economy and social fabric will continue with the continuation of sanctions. By relying on sanctions, the U.S., Mr. Boren said, would face a weakened Iraq in a few months: weakened in military power and weakened in civilian morale. close
