In 1864 the Confederate Navy submarine H.L. Hunley sank the USS Husatonic but never returned to its base, the first time a submarine sank another vessel in history. The wreck of the H.L. Hunley was found near Charleston, South Carolina. Harry Pecorelli III described the submarine and its exploits, and also its retrieval from underwater. A new wing of the Charleston Museum of History will display the H.L. Hunley. close
