Ms. Carbone was interviewed about her book Stealing Freedom, published by Alfred A. Knopf. The interview took place outside, and she pointed out several of the places on the farm that were featured in the book and talked about the daily lives of slaves. The book is a fictionalized account of the life of Ann Maria Weems, a slave who was born around 1841 in Maryland. She escaped in 1855 and traveled through the Underground Railroad to Canada. close
