The book examines a 1944 fire at a Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Hartford, Connecticut. The author looked at the events leading up to the fire, the ensuing stampede that left 167 people dead, the turmoil afterwards, and the resulting litigation and changes to the law. There were also remarks from other speakers and a message from Charles Nelson Reilly was read. Mr. O’Nan responded to questions and comments from members of the audience, many of whom were survivors of the fire. close
