Mr. Philbrick talked about his book In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, published by Viking Press. The book tells the story of the Essex, which left Nantucket in 1819 and was rammed and sunk by a sperm whale. The ship served as the inspiration for Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. Mr. Philbrick also responded to audience questions. close
