The committee heard testimony on the progress of the Bush administration at the halfway point of President Bush’s term. Mr. Bowsher, comptroller general for the General Accounting Office, presented issues he felt would be of importance in the coming term of Congress and updated the committee on issues that were discussed in Congress in the previous term. Issues brought up by Mr. Bowsher include the costs of the Persian Gulf war and the recession and economic hindrances including the deficit and the instability of financial institutions. Mr. Conahan discussed the costs of the Persian Gulf war and the financial obligations of U.S. allies in donating to the coalition forces' cause. close
