Attorney General Reno and Mr. Holder spoke to reporters about the results of a study on federal death penalty cases. Ms. Reno said that she was “sorely troubled” by racial disparities in death penalty cases and called on U.S. attorneys to explain why capital punishment was not applied uniformly across ethnic groups. She also said that the study did not merit a moratorium on the death penalty since no questions of innocence were raised. Following their remarks they answered questions from the reporters. close
