Parents, educators and medical experts testified about psychiatric disorders such as attention deficit disorder/ attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD); the role of schools in diagnosis; whether those making diagnosis decisions are adequately trained; and whether parents are pressured to place their children on behavioral drugs to facilitate the management of their behavior in school. The hearing was in response to the dramatic increase in the prescription and use of stimulants such as Ritalin, anti-depressants like Prozac and other psychotropic drugs. close
