Colonel Ahmed al-Robayan, Joint Arab Forces Spokesman, briefed reporters on events in the Persian Gulf war and announced that two Iraqi Mirage fighter jets had been shot down by the same Saudi pilot on the coast of Saudi Arabia. In addition, a Saudi combat ship sank an Iraqi mine laying ship in the Arabian Gulf. Colonel Robayan emphasized the close working relationship between American and allied forces in the hostilities against Iraq. The shooting down of the Iraqi jets coincided with the clearing of cloud cover over Iraq and Kuwait, allowing allied forces to step up the bombing of strategic military sites in Iraq. close
