The authors discussed their decisions to write about race and race relations. Mr. Hemphill talked about his book The Ballad of Little River: A Tale of Race and Restless Youth in the Rural South, published by Free Press. The book is about the five white youths who burned a black church in a small Alabama town. Mr. Malcomson talked about his book One Drop of Blood: The American Misadventure of Race, published by Farrar, Staus & Giroux. The book examines why race is still a factor in America. After their prepared remarks the authors answered questions from the audience. close
