Union private and mapmaker Sneden left a five-thousand page diary and nearly 1000 watercolor illustrations of his eyewitness accounts of some of the most famous battles of the Civil War. James Kelly told how the materials came to be acquired by the Virginia Historical Society. Mr. Bryan spoke about Sneden’s background and years of fighting. Mr. Lankford spoke about Sneden as a prisoner of war and his postwar years. The discussion was supplemented with slides of Sneden’s illustrations.
