19 Weeks Norman Moss talked about his book, 19 Weeks: America, Britain, and the Fateful Summer of 1940. He described the time between May and September of 1940, during which Britain prepared for an imminent German invasion while America argued over how to respond to the war raging in Europe. In December 1941, the United States joined the Allies, but Mr. Moss argued it was the decisions made between May and September of 1940 that signaled America’s willingness to emerge from its isolationism. Mr. Moss said those nineteen weeks were the time in which America’s interventionist role in the world was forged and which ensured the decline and eventual disappearance of the British Empire. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions. close
