Mr. Gause discussed his father’s book The War Journal of Major Damon “Rocky” Gause: The Firsthand Account of One of the Greatest Escapes of World War II, published by Hyperion. The book was compiled from a journal Major Gause wrote during the war which he later turned into a manuscript in 1943. Major Gause was a pilot stationed in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked in December 1941. The book details Major Gause’s and Captain William Lloyd Osborne’s escape from the Bataan Death March and survival while crossing the Pacific Ocean to Australia. Mr. Gause also talked about his father’s life in the military. close
