David Starkey discussed his biography Elizabeth: The Struggle for the Throne, published by HarperCollins. Elizabeth I, the daughter of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, was the first woman recognized as heir to the English throne. The book focused on Elizabeth’s formative years and the events of her life before she became Queen of England. Mr. Starkey described her relationship with her father and her half-siblings King Edward VI and Queen Mary. The author further detailed how her experiences and personal relationships as a youth formed her character and personality, and shaped her opinions and beliefs. After his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
