Meredith Maran talked about her book Class Dismissed: A Year in the Life of an American High School, a Glimpse into the Heart of a Nation, published by St. Martins Press. The book is based on one year in the life of three seniors at California’s Berkeley High School, the nation’s most diverse public high school. The book explores issues that concern today’s youth, including race relations, planning for college, and family problems as well as the problems of public education. Ms. Maran read from the book, and students from Berkeley High read poems about their lives as teenagers. After their presentation they answered questions from members of the audience. close
