Professor Olson discussed his book A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory, published by Free Press. The co-author talked about what he believes are the three battles in the Alamo: the battle itself, including the origin of the Texas revolution; the crusade and effort to preserve and to redeem the battle site; and the controversies about the Alamo as a battlefield in contemporary culture wars. In counterpoint, Professor Flores discussed his concerns that the mythology surrounding the story telling of the Alamo has produced historically incorrect images and stereotypes, and feels that these distortions are a disservice to the men who died at the Alamo. Both speakers answered questions posed to them by members of the audience. close
