Trust Us, We're Experts!
Investigative journalists Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber are co-authors of Trust Us, We’re Experts!: How Industry Manipulates Science and Gambles with Your Future, published by Penguin Putnam. The book takes a look at the public relations industry, making the argument that many corporations hire public relations firms and experts from the scientific community to spread false propaganda about dioxins, bovine growth hormones, genetically engineered food, and other potential threats to public health. In their talk, Stauber and Rampton discussed these issues, as well as mad cow disease, global warming, and the tobacco industry. They discussed public relations strategies and recommended grassroots efforts to combat them. After their presentation they answered questions from the audience. close
