Dr. Jerri Nielsen discussed her book Ice Bound: A Doctor’s Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole, published by Hyperion/Talk Miramax Books. The book is Dr. Nielsen’s account of her year-long experience starting in November, 1998 as a physician at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station during which she battled breast cancer under extraordinary circumstances until she could be evacuated. During the event, she recounted her South Pole experiences, including the unique geographic and environmental elements in Antarctica as well as the unusual living conditions in the South Pole dome. She described her exchanges with some of her pen pals that she e-mailed with during her Antarctic stay and shared anecdotes from her 7-city book tour. close
