Devon Jersild talked about her book Happy Hours: Alcohol in a Woman’s Life, published by Cliff Street Books. Inspired by her own sister’s battle with alcoholism, Ms. Jersild combined research from treatment specialists with personal stories of women battling alcoholism. The book addresses alcoholism specifically as it applies to women. Ms. Jersild writes that women metabolize alcohol differently from men, more quickly developing such physical complications as liver disease, high blood pressure, and hepatitis. The author treats alcoholism and the lifelong effects it has on a woman’s health and well-being. Ms. Jersild responded to questions after her presentation. close
