Two authors presented their new findings on the Shenandoah Valley and sex in the Civil War.

Mr. Mahon addressed the view that the Shenandoah Valley was the major granary for the Confederate army. Mr. Mahon asserts that the main reason the army of Virginia existed on a minimum of supplies for the duration of the war was not the destruction of crops, but the destruction of the railroads. Mr. Mahon was a contributing author to the four-volume Encyclopedia of the Confederacy published by MacMillan and is the author of The Shenandoah Valley, 1861-1865: The Destruction of the Granary of the Confederacy published by Stackpole Books.

Dr. Lowry discussed sex and the role it played in the Civil War. The author researched over 80,000 court-martial records to uncover more about the notion of sex in the Civil War.
