Contestants were asked to write a letter to an author -- living or dead -- explaining how the author’s work changed their view of themselves or the world. These winning Letters About Literature were selected from among 200 letters submitted by 4th to 12th grade students from the District of Columbia’s public and private schools. These winners advanced to the national contest. close
