Professor Lewis talked about his book W.E.B. Du Bois: The Fight for Equality and the American Century, 1919-1963, published by Henry Holt & Co. The book is the second volume of a biography of the pioneering sociologist, educator, essayist, activist, and political theorist. On April 16, 2001 it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Biography. The first volume, W.E.B. Du Bois: Biography of Race, 1868-1919, also won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1994. He responded to questions from the host in Washington, D.C. and to telephone calls from viewers. close
