Mr. Philbrick talked about his book In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, published by Penguin. The book is about the whaling industry in Nantucket, which was the center for the world’s whale oil production in the early 19th century. Mr. Philbrick focused in on the fate of a whaling ship, the Essex, and its crew. The Essex had served as the inspiration for Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick.
