Martin Dugard talked about his book Farther Than Any Man: The Rise and Fall of Captain James Cook, published by Pocket Books. This biography of the 18th-century sea captain and explorer follows Captain Cook’s life from his early years to his death in Hawaii. Captain Cook was the only non commissioned sailor in the history of the Royal Navy to rise to the rank of ship’s commander. Mr. Dugard said that Captain Cook is the prototype for pop-culture icon Captain James Kirk of Star Trek and also Captain Hook. close
