Professor Weigley talked about his book, A Great Civil War: A Military and Political History, 1861-1865, published by Indiana University Press. The author evaluated the roles of Generals Lee, Grant and McClellan, among others. He also explored the importance of Gettysburg to both Union and Confederate war efforts. He offered several reasons why Confederate forces were unsuccessful, including lack of men and resources and an over-reliance on General Lee. The book includes all of the major battles of the Civil War. After his prepared remarks, Professor Weigley answered a few questions from members of the audience. close
