Professor Grimsley discussed his book, The Hard Hand of War: Union Military Policy Toward Southern Civilians, 1861-1865, published by Cambridge University Press. The author said that the policy of the U.S. Congress towards the Confederate States resulted in better treatment of Southern civilians as well as southern soldiers by the Union Army. After the presentation Mr. Grimsley answered questions from members of the audience. close
