Don Doyle talked about Lafayette County, Mississippi. This county was the primary inspiration for author William Faulkner’s fictional Yoknapatawpha County. Mr. Doyle talked about four hundred years of history of the county, from the arrival of Europeans in Chicasaw Indian territory in 1540 to Faulkner’s death in 1962. He traced the building of a permanent community and plantation economy by white settlers and explored the lives of slaves in the region. He answered questions from the audience. close
