Librarian of Congress James Billington and the first lady announced the first National Book Festival to be held next month on the grounds of the Library of Congress and the U.S. Capitol. Laura Bush, a librarian and former Texas first lady, was the founder of the Texas Book Festival on which this event is modeled. She described the festival and named many of the famous authors who would take part in it. Mr. Allen represented the National Basketball Association and its “Read to Succeed” program. close
