Democratic leaders including Senator Chris Dodd (D-Connecticut) and Representatives John Conyers (D-Michigan), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas), Maxine Waters (D-California) and Charlie Gonzalez (D-Texas) among others, spoke to reporters about President Bush’s acceptance of a blue ribbon commission report on election reform. The report called for a variety of changes in election procedures including holding elections on a federal holiday, standardizing voting machine technology, and changing registration methods.
