From Birchbark Books, Herbs, and Native Arts, panelists discussed Painting the Dakota: Seth Eastman at Fort Snelling, published by Afton Historical Society. The book is about American artist Seth Eastman, a career Army officer stationed at Fort Snelling (in what was to become Minnesota) in the 1830s and 1840s. While there, he made numerous sketches and paintings documenting the lives and customs of the Dakota Indians living in the region. Panelist Kristian Berg produced a documentary about Seth Eastman. Renee Jones is a descendant of Seth Eastman. After their discussion the panelists answered questions from members of the audience. close
