In a 1996 interview, then-Governor Ridge talked about his career in politics. He was formerly a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He participated from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by remote connection. On September 20, 2001 President Bush announced the creation of a cabinet-level position: director of the Office of Homeland Security. Governor Ridge resigned from his governorship on October 2, 2001 to fill that position. close
