Anne Wortham, Professor of Sociology at Washington & Lee University, discussed the effects of the growing movement on Afro-Centrism on higher education in the United States. As an academic movement it called, in varying degrees, for the replacement of Western civilization courses with African history and ethnic culture classes. Ms. Wortham talked about the movement from the perspective of how this new emphasis is affecting black students. close
