Stephen Kinzer talked about his book Crescent and Star: Turkey Between Two Worlds, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, about Turkey’s present and future role in maintaining stability in the Middle East. He focused on the events that have created the country. Topics included Turkish pride in their Ottoman Empire history, the strength of the army, the clash between Muslim culture and secular expectations, and the current Turkish culture. Its history and geographic location give Turkey a unique position in between Arabic countries and Europe.
