Professor Augustus Cochran talked about his book, Democracy Heading South: National Politics in the Shadow of Dixie, published by the University Press of Kansas. He said that current U.S. politics is exhibiting some of the same symptoms demonstrated in the South in the era of Jim Crow and demagogic rhetoric. He also talked about the change in political institutions, racial politics, family dynasties, and low voter turnout. He also answered audience questions. close
